Bild zum Text war für mich immer wichtig, und umgekehrt. Zeichnen und Malen hab ich leider in der Schule verlernt. Darum versuchte ich’s mit Fotografie und lernte, nicht zuletzt dank Irmy Algader, allmählich zu beurteilen, was ein «gutes Bild» ist.
Was mich an Fotos reizt, ist das Dokumentarische. Dass eine Foto nicht die Realität wiedergibt, sondern eine Behauptung von ihr, ist mir wohl bewusst. Darum bearbeite ich meine Fotos nicht, der Bildausschnitt vor dem Abdrücken ist schon Bearbeitung genug.
Ganz besonders fasziniert mich das bewegte Bild. Ich bin ohne Fernsehen aufgewachsen, umso heftiger wirkten Filme im Kino auf mich. Noch heute lass ich für einen Film alles stehen und liegen.

Images have always been important to me in relation to text, and vice versa. Unfortunately, I lost my ability to draw and paint at school. So I tried my hand at photography and gradually learned, not least thanks to Irmy Algader, to judge what makes a ‚good picture”‘
What appeals to me about photos is their documentary nature. I am well aware that a photo does not reproduce reality, but rather makes a statement about it. That’s why I don’t edit my photos; cropping the image before pressing the shutter button is editing enough for me.
I am particularly fascinated by moving images. I grew up without television, which made films in the cinema all the more powerful for me. Even today, I’ll drop everything for a film.

Per me le immagini sono sempre state importanti per accompagnare i testi, e viceversa. Purtroppo a scuola ho perso l’abilità di disegnare e dipingere. Per questo ho provato con la fotografia e ho imparato gradualmente, non da ultimo grazie a Irmy Algader, a valutare cosa sia una «bella immagine».
Ciò che mi attrata dalle foto è il loro carattere documentario. Sono ben consapevole che una foto non riproduce la realtà, ma ne è un’affermazione. Per questo non ritocco le mie foto: l’inquadratura prima di scattare è già un ritocco sufficiente.
Mi affascina particolarmente l’immagine in movimento. Sono cresciuto senza televisione, quindi i film al cinema mi hanno colpito ancora di più. Ancora oggi, per un film lascio tutto e corro al cinema.
